How To Join
HOW TO JOIN THE COUNTY BOWLING CLUB
If you are interested in joining the Club, please contact Hugh Coulter, the Membership Secretary, on 02380 252535 who will tell you about the Club and answer any questions that you may have. Also, please see the "Downloads" section below for further information. Arrangements will be made to meet you at the Club and introduce you to bowling. You will also have the opportunity to meet some of our members and to see our facilities before deciding if you wish to join.
The Club charges a one-off Joining Fee of £30 and an Annual Subscription of £125. New Members who join mid-season will receive consideration in terms of a pro rata fee during their first year.
For 2021, the joining fee is waived and there is a 50% discount on the annual subscription for new bowlers. Also, new bowlers may attend up to 4 of the Tuesday morning open sessions to try out bowling before making a final decision.
Subscriptions are due annually on March 1st, and may be paid in one lump sum or through five monthly installments of £25, due on the first day of each month, March to July.
New members receive a copy of the annual Club Directory which lists fixtures and social events as well as names and telephone numbers of Club members. They will also be shown how to gain access to the Members Area of the Club website and may also purchase a Club tie and name badge (gents) or a cravat and clip (ladies).
Members enjoying the club facilities
Once elected to membership you will be provided with keys (and security codes) which will allow you to have full use of Club facilities during the playing season (mid-April through to mid-September). Playing rinks can be reserved for informal or practice games.
As well as full membership, the Club has Social Membership costing £30 per year. There is no Joining Fee for Social Members.
Although Social Members do not have standard bowling privileges, they may participate in up to 12 Roll Ups during weekday mornings and afternoons, subject to paying a green fee of £3 on each occasion. They also have full use of the Club facilities as well as invitations to social events and Club trips. Several "retired" bowlers and non-playing spouses take advantage of this class of membership.
Junior Membership is available to those aged under eighteen for £20 per year.
Visitors may play at the Club when accompanied by a full member, again, subject to payment of a £3 green fee on each occasion.
For men, white above the waist and grey trousers, except when whites specified.
For ladies, white above the waist and grey skirts or tailored grey trousers. When whites are specified, this means whites above the waist and white tailored skirts or trousers.
Shoes: All players must wear flat soled shoes to protect the playing surface.
A tie or cravat is required when representing the club in external competitions or whenever "whites" are specified.
Advice on clothing and equipment as well as details of local suppliers will be available from members. Initially new members will have access to a set of Club bowls but you will be expected to obtain your own set a few weeks after joining. We recommend you initially buy a set of second hand bowls and these are regular advertised by Club members.
