V E Day was celebrated at the club on Thursday 8th May with a roll-up, as well as fun and games on the green. Over twenty members attended and not only played, but also told stories of their experiences of V E Day or war experiences or stories of their parents experiences.
The clubhouse was adorned with National bunting along with V E Day and Union flags, and the tables were set out and decorated as a street party. Back ground music of the time was provided by Barbara Sparling, my thanks to her.
The day started with a roll-up to enable everyone to get their eye in. We then observed the National two minute silence at twelve o'clock which was followed by lunch. This was followed by a series of bowls associated games on the green, which create a far degree of laughter and hilarity. My thanks to everyone who attended. A special thanks to Marquerite for supplying scones and cream for everyone.
I hope that when you are asked in the future, 'what did you do on V E Day 80' you will be able to say, we had a enjoyable day at the bowls club playing games telling and listening to stories of the war and eating cream teas.
